The signalboxes closed later that night with control put on Cambridge PSB. I thought this collection was worthy of inclusion for this reason. It was taken from the back cab of the last daylight passenger train to use the West Curve from the March direction and that track was lifted soon after. The light is starting to fade as our Norwich bound 158 is directed on to the West Curve. Now on the West Curve 60010 can be seen approaching on the Down line with the RMC Roadstone. 60010 takes the Roadstone towards the March line and is bound for Peak Forest. Waiting the road at ENJ 69 signal. A few hours later it was no longer. On our way. This signal could be a b*****d to pull at the best of times.

Closing the gates at West River for 47572. Ely Dock Junction 8th December 1987 and 31448 leaves Ely Dock Junction and a pair of rail blue DMUs behind 8th December 1987 and 31448 gets into her stride on the Soham branch with a train bound for Ipswich. 8th December 1987 and 31448 disappears into the morning haze 31190 and 31283 get a freightliner away from Ely Dock Junction towards Soham. 31190 is still with us and is owned by FM Rail. 31190 and 31283 get a freightliner away from Ely Dock Junction towards Soham. Ely Dock Junction's No59 signal. 10-02-88. Ely Dock Junction signalbox soaks up the sunrise. 10-02-88. An amazing sky frames Ely Dock Junction whilst a DMU and parcel unit are held in the down loop. 11-03-88. Away from Ely and past the Dock. A 156 can just be seen approaching from Soham. 11-03-88. The sunrises at Ely are a joy to be awake for. A DMU enters the down platform before crossing over so it can be worked back to Cambridge. 11-03-88. Looking back, the 156 is signalled for the single line which will take the train into Ely's back platform. 13-03-88. An empty DMU enters the goods road. 13-03-88. A DMU departss Ely on the single line towards Ely Dock Junction. Apologies for quality of scan. (3) 13-03-88. Another DMU waits at Ely Dock Jn's home signal to enter the single line working to Cambridge and of course for the pilotman. (2) 13-03-88. A NSE liveried DMU gets the signal to proceed back on to down main after single line working at Ely Dock Junction. (1) 13-03-88. A NSE liveried DMU approaches Ely Dock Junction from the Cambridge direction wrong line due to single line working being in place. 8th December 1987 was rather cold. We decided to do some winter photography and opted for Ely Dock Junction. The first for the day, 31419 makes its way from Soham towards the Dock. 47576 is seen leaving Ely North Junction on 08-06-87. 47576 was a regular loco at Kings Lynn... The semaphore bracket signal at Ely North Junction has just one more day left to go and is 'off' for the March line. Class 31 on Ely West Curve heading towards March. 56063 heads a Redland train bound for Kennet past Ely Dock Junction. 156403 dumped in Ely Yard. 13-02-92. 56063's train can be seen heading away on the Soham branch as we wait for the road at Ely Dock. On 08-02-92, 156403 hit a lorry at Dimmocks Cote level crossing. I was in Ely Dock Jn signalbox at the time and knew something was wrong when both up and down track circuits lit up!
